Keto diet for weight loss

In the previous post we touched briefly on one of the main benefits of the ketogenic or keto diet which is weight loss. No doubt, this is the primary reason most people go on diets, including keto. So let's delve more into it in this post.

Several studies have shown that people on a high fat, low carb diet burn fat at a faster rate than those on a high carb, low fat diet. The main reason is because the low carb diet (like keto) causes the body to enter a state of ketosis where blood sugar and insulin levels fall. The body is then forced to use fat cells as energy. As this happens, a considerable amount of water is released which in itself causes initial loss of weight. Then the fat cells are able to enter the bloodstream and make their way to the liver, where they are turned into ketones which can then be used for energy.

In addition, during ketosis, your levels of hunger also decrease. This is very beneficial because you reduce your caloric intake as you eat less. As long as you maintain a caloric deficit with your diet, you will enjoy the weight loss benefits of the keto diet. It has been noted that low carb diets are also effective in reducing visceral fat, primarily stored in the abdominal cavity.

Also noteworthy is the fact that many people are sensitive to grains, even gluten-free ones. Therefore, eliminating them in the keto diet can lead to an increased ability to absorb minerals like magnesium and potassium, which in turn means your body is more nourished and you have fewer cravings.

With all that said, we need to stress one important point: because you are on the keto diet it doesn't mean you are allowed to eat however much you want even if the food is keto-friendly. If you are eating way more calories than you need, you will not lose weight. It's that simple, and yet this is probably one of the biggest reasons people fail.

In closing, to be successful on the ketogenic diet, focus your diet around fatty cuts of grass-fed meat, butter, eggs, avocados, plenty of green vegetables and cruciferous, and modest amounts of keto desserts, dairy, and sweets.

Wouldn't it be great to have a keto meal plan created by experts (nutritionists, personal trainers, and chefs) customized to your needs and situation where all the hard work is done for you? All you have to do is cook the food which can be a lot of fun as you no longer have to worry about what you can and cannot eat. This will also increase your chances of success with the keto diet whether your goal is weight loss, improving your health or both.
